My Underwater Photography

So far there have been many interests to sample in this world. My father instilled in me good, basic photography. And, while growing up in the Mojave Desert in Southern California, I dreamed of getting close to the water. Sailing and diving became part of my life, along with photography. On land, I considered myself a good technical photographer but I rarely felt truly inspired. I was the engineer not the artist or story teller. Underwater changed things. Underwater photography is technically challenging, unforgiving with regard to equipment maintenance shortfalls and absolutely inspiring.

From the moment the dump valve on the BCD is pressed and the descent begins, I experience excitement at the vastness, the blue, the depth. I am a thankful guest in the “sea creature’s home”. In my photography, I aspire to capture the vastness and beauty of the scene with depth and color. Yes, color! My business is named SeaScape Photo because I am capturing the wide view rather than the micro view.

I shoot both film and digital images using either a Nikon N90s or D70 respectively both housed in Ikelite housings with Ikelite strobes. For film, I use Fuji Provia 100F. For lens I use the Nikon 17-35mm and the 20mm prime lens. I will digitize slides using methods based on the end results desired. Images may be manipulated with PhotoShop CS but the impact is very discrete. Prints are produced on an Epson 2200 with Epson papers. Larger formats are supplied by a top rated lab located in Boulder, Colorado.

Please enjoy the images and any patronage is greatly appreciated.
